Supporting Socialization of the Elderly Population

Supporting Socialization of the Elderly Population

In Georgia, elderly citizens often do not have spaces or opportunities for socialization, participation in public processes, realization of their skills, or continued education opportunities.

With support from the USAID Civil Society Engagement Program, the Kakheti-based CSO Civic Initiative along with Knowledge Café is working to address this problem by piloting an elderly-orientated program in the Sighnaghi municipality.

Along with a multitude of engagement activities, Knowledge Café announced a contest of photo-stories, inviting young people to submit a photo of an elderly person along with a short story introducing them to a wider audience and highlighting their personal qualities, experiences, knowledge, and everyday activities. The purpose of this contest is to encourage experience-sharing and more social connections between the younger and older generations.

Contestants who make it to the second round will attend masterclasses in photography and digital storytelling, and the winners of the contest will be awarded various prizes. The deadline for submitting applications is June 8, 2023.
