The NGO Parents for Education has compiled a list of problems and challenges students and parents faced in Georgian schools in the 2022-2023 school year. With support from the USAID Civil Society Engagement Program, the organization gathered the views of more than 800 parents from cities and villages around the country through phone consultations and trainings held throughout the school year.
The list includes several critical issues, including poor sanitary conditions, physical safety issues, improper or lacking school meals, inadequate teaching methods and resources, little to no opportunity for parents’ engagement in the school management process, and a lack of inclusive education. According to parents, the problems are so severe and widespread that they prevent many children and adolescents from being raised in a healthy environment and receiving a quality education. Based on the issues raised by parents, the NGO plans to provide parents with consultancy and other support as needed to better facilitate their engagement with school administrations and policy-makers to ensure a child-oriented environment at schools.
