As part of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence Global Campaign, EWMI ACCESS and the Network of Centers for Civic Engagement (NCCE) organized diverse events and activities in ten cities of Georgia to raise awareness about the gender-based violence and engage local communities, primarily youth. The events included movie-screenings and follow-up discussions, regional information meetings about crisis centers and shelters for victims of domestic violence, workshops for local CSOs on prevention of sexual harassment at the workplace, information meetings on current legislative framework and amendments to the law on sexual harassment, public readings of a book – “Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls” and other events.
One of the activities envisioned translating into Georgian and widely distributing the powerful stories of 16 Heroes fighting gender-based violence across the globe. These stories were put together in 2016 by Together for Girls, a global public-private partnership dedicated to ending violence against boys and girls, with a special focus on sexual violence against girls. NCCE printed the posters of these 16 stories, distributed to the schools in the regions and organized an essay competition among the school students. The competition encouraged students to get acquainted with the 16 stories and think of the ways to effectively prevent and address gender-based violence in their communities. The competition ended on December 25. NCCE will award three winners and publish their essays on its website and Facebook page.
