In May 2019, a large-scale social campaign to raise funds to build the Knowledge Café in Tsnori (Kakheti) was rolled out with support from EWMI ACCESS. In order to attract wider public attention, the Knowledge Café hosted interesting discussions with prominent speakers: winner of the National Teacher Prize Award, Lado Apkhazava and founder of the Georgian Farmers’ Association, Nino Zambakhidze. In addition, at the celebration of Georgia’s Independence Day (on May 26) interested citizens attending the celebration on Rustaveli Avenue could donate their own “bricks” (worth 5, 10, 20 or 30 Lari each) to the Knowledge Café. Despite the rainy day, 64 citizens made their donations.
Several years ago, young activists from Tsnori decided to establish a Knowledge Café – a hub for gathering and sharing knowledge in the Kakheti region. The Café is an informal education center where people of all ages can organize and/or participate in discussions, trainings and other educational events. It also hosts a multi-media library and a bookshop with the lowest prices. With lots of enthusiasm and donations from ordinary citizens, the founders of the Café collected money to buy a land plot. The new campaign aims to attract resources to construct a building. Currently, the Knowledge Café operates in a rented space.
