Parents Request Full State Funding for Treatment and Rehabilitation of Children with Cancer
Because September is childhood cancer awareness month, civic activist Mariam Mitaishvili prepared and distributed numerous outreach materials on social media to raise public awareness on the issue. Moreover, the parents and caregivers published a petition requesting the government cover all treatment-related costs for children, including fees for medical care abroad and rehabilitation services. The parents and caregivers were aided by lawyers to draft the petition, and the necessary signatures were collected in just two days.
In parallel, Mariam Mitaishvili organized psychotherapy sessions for children undergoing cancer treatment at Iashvili Hospital, and their parents/caregivers to help relieve additional stress caused by the pandemic.
